Early Life and Background

Zachary Michael King, widely known as Zach King, was born on February 4, 1990, in Portland, Oregon, USA. He is of mixed heritage—half Chinese from his father's side and a quarter Austrian and a quarter Nicaraguan from his mother's side. Raised in a Christian household, Zach was homeschooled alongside his three sisters, one of whom was adopted. His passion for filmmaking ignited at the tender age of seven when he created his first video using a home video camera. By fourteen, he had invested in video equipment, including a Mac computer, cameras, and a tripod, to further his interest in video editing and production.

Education and Early Career

Zach pursued higher education at Biola University, where he graduated in December 2012 with a degree in Cinema and Media Arts. During his time at the university, he launched his website, FinalCutKing.com, in 2008, offering tutorials on Final Cut Pro editing software. This initiative stemmed from his difficulty in finding adequate online resources for the software. His tutorials gained popularity, leading him to sell training seminars to fund his college education. 

Rise to Fame

Zach's breakthrough came with the viral success of his "magic vines"—six-second videos digitally edited to appear as if he was performing magic. These videos showcased his exceptional skills in visual effects and storytelling. His innovative content earned him a spot in YouTube's NextUp Creators contest in 2013, recognizing him as one of the platform's promising talents. In 2015, Zach and his wife, Rachel Holm, competed in the 28th season of the reality game show "The Amazing Race," finishing in sixth place. 

Personal Life

Zach married Rachel Holm in 2014. The couple has three children and resides in Los Angeles, California. Zach often shares glimpses of his family life through his social media platforms, maintaining a balance between his professional and personal life.

As of March 2025, Zach King's YouTube channel boasts over 42 million subscribers and more than 20 billion views. He is also one of the most followed creators on TikTok, with over 82 million followers. His content, characterized by "digital sleight of hand," continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Zach's innovative approach to storytelling and visual effects has earned him several accolades, including the Hewlett-Packard commercial contest in 2010 and a Streamy Award for Best Visual and Special Effects in 2021.
